Family AAC

Terms of Use

Last updated: October 14, 2026

These terms govern the use of the Family AAC application (the “app”), provided by Daertech (“we”). By downloading or using the app you accept these terms. If a minor uses the app, their parent or guardian accepts them on the minor’s behalf.

1. What the app is

Family AAC is an augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) tool that lets users select pictures, build sentences and play them with the device’s voice or with family recordings.

2. Not a medical device

The app is not a medical device and does not provide diagnosis, treatment or professional advice. It does not replace assessment or therapy by a speech-language pathologist or other health professional. It must not be used as the only means of communication in emergencies or situations involving health or safety risks.

3. License

We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the app on devices you control, under these terms and the rules of the store you downloaded it from (App Store or Google Play). You may not sell, copy, modify or distribute the app except as permitted by law.

4. Included content

  • Family AAC original pictograms: created for the app; you may use them within it.
  • ARASAAC pictograms: author Sergio Palao, owned by the Government of Aragón (Spain), distributed under the Creative Commons BY-NC-SA license. They may only be used for non-commercial purposes with attribution. More at arasaac.org.
  • Third-party names and trademarks belong to their owners. Family AAC is not affiliated with any maker of other AAC systems.

5. Your content

The photos, recordings, words and pages you create are yours and are stored on your device. You are responsible for having permission to use other people’s photos and voices. You decide whether to make backups and where to keep them.

6. Optional third-party services

Some optional features use third-party services (ARASAAC, AI providers with your own key, system speech engines). Their use is subject to those third parties’ terms and policies. If you use an AI provider, any charges for your key are your responsibility. We do not guarantee the availability or results of those services.

7. Acceptable use

You agree not to use the app for unlawful purposes, not to attempt to break its security, and to supervise children’s use. Keep the parent PIN private.

8. No warranties

The app is provided “as is” and “as available.” We do our best for it to work well, but we do not guarantee it is error-free, uninterrupted, that system voices are available on every device or language, or that data will never be lost. We recommend making regular backups.

9. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential damages, or loss of data arising from the use of or inability to use the app. Nothing in these terms limits rights that the consumer law of your country does not allow to be limited.

10. Changes and updates

We may update the app and these terms. The current version will be posted on this page. By continuing to use the app after a change, you accept the updated terms.

11. Store terms

If you downloaded the app from the App Store, Apple’s standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies. Apple and Google are not responsible for maintaining or supporting the app; we provide that support.

12. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts (United States), without prejudice to any rights granted by the law of your country of residence.
